relationship

  • Sep. 25th, 2008 at 1:02 PM

This is an old photo of my current bf, Chan-kun. He had come to my house at 5 am with a large group of people to swim and hang out. They (and I) had been up all night partying before this (it was graduation night and they had gone to some party). At this point in the night, we were delirious with sleeplessness and just goofing off.

My black brother (that sounds racist but it really isn’t, it is just a long story...) heard he wanted to ask me out, but both of us just kind of shy, so we danced around the subject for a while until he found an intensely adorable way to ask it.

It’s a scene from JTHM (johnny the homicidal maniac) by Jhonen Vasquez, which is one thing we have in common, how much we love that graphic novel. It’s a romantic scene in which Johnny asks Devi to be his girlfriend. Chan-kun drew this himself and gave me a note with it folded up inside. I found the note, read it, gave a girly squeal, and showed it to the people in my class (none of whom know anything about goth romance or JTHM).

It seems cheesy and juvenile, but hey, I’m a sixteen year old gothic lolita/dancer from the Hendo, KY. I can afford to be juvenile. Besides, it is very romantic as well.

One thing I thought of after a while was how much it represents us.  Chan-kun is like JTHM, very goth and mysterious with a good side as well (plus the shy asking out). I am like Devi, artistic, and goth also. We make a cute couple, in my opinion.

As much as I rant about how girls my age take relationships too seriously, I think I can invest in this (I have known him forever, my family (the ones that matter, aka, my black brother) think it’s a good match, and there is chemistry (which I don’t often get and I think it has something to do with my anosmia.) Well, sorry I took up your time writing about this, I am just rather excited.

graveyard picnic

  • Sep. 22nd, 2008 at 12:48 PM

Wow, I have not been on this site in some time. just a realization. anyway, I have had technical difficulty, first due to internet failure, then the remnants of Ike put the Hendo in a sorry situation that messed up the wire connections. but now I am back to my routine (squeeze in the internet between the eight billion other things I have to do). anyway, I will post pictures of this later, but I will describe what occurred a short while back. Imagine seven gothlings walking through the winding paths of a large graveyard, carrying food items to have a picnic (we called ourselves a murder of goths because pack, pride, gaggle... just sounded less cool... we are quite juvenile, I suppose...)
Two are gothic lolitas, four are just termed goth for lack of better words, and one is easily termed as punk-goth. Now imagine them lounging casually in the shade of mausoleums, eating both ordinary food or decadent little treats. pictures will be posted later. so here I present:
HOW TO HAVE A GOTHIC GRAVEYARD PICNIC:
Preparation: if you are hosting picnic rather than what we did, which was more like a gothic potluck, you'll have to do all of the food/preparation. so here it goesLocation/Timing: do you live in the Arctic? is it winter/summer? do you have a local graveyard? well, you should know this stuff (especially if you live in the Arctic and don't notice). scheduling your picnic is important, ours was in late summer, so it was fairly hot sitting there in my semi-loli outfit, but you don't have to repeat that mistake. early fall is advisable (and if it is a bit chilly, throw on a gothic (lolita) jacket). next you'll have to find a graveyard, we found one nearby our homes because none of us currently own cars. you should pick a spot that is shady (if it's hot), kind of secluded so that people don't chase you out (sorry, bible-belters, they will), and scenic so you can take lots of pictures!
Food: this is important, especially if you have to make it yourself (we had everyone bring a certain thing - I, an EGL, was in charge of dessert!). But there are many factors to consider: allergies, vegan/vegetarian, likes/dislikes... If you are doing it all, I suggest looking at a guide to an EGL tea party, just make sure you have more than enough and a way to get it to the graveyard.

Activities: are your friends interested in history, japan, folk lore... Set a theme based on this. The Victorian or Rococo eras are good, you can find articles on Victorian picnics if you look, I don’t know where I got this, but if it’s your’s, I’ll cite you with a contact.

Picnics were popular with the Victorians, perhaps because it supplied them the opportunity to escape from formal dining rituals. But as etiquette manuals pronounced, the picnic has its etiquette as well as the dinner party and society demands that one should be loyal to these rules whether dining under the tree or under the chandelier.
For the Victorians, picnics were the happy occasions when they would try to forget how highly civilized they were on a day-to-day basis. Often the food for the picnic would be delivered by servants in a separate carriage ahead of the guests. Picnics were to be of a more casual affair and not to be crowded with more than two or three servants.
According to etiquette manuals gentlemen were instructed to forgo their own needs and consent to become the waiters, guides and servants to the ladies and must perform any feats to suit a ladies fancy even if she desired a lovely flower at an impossible to get at place.
Etiquette manuals reminded a gentleman that women have more tender nerves and more rapid imaginations and that consideration should be taken when choosing a picnic site, and so a site set above a cliff selected for its splendor view may alarm the female diners. Care must also be taken to see that the guests are not seated upon an ant hill. There should also be certainty of shade as it is quite impossible for a lady to hold her parasol during lunch and nothing is more uncomfortable for a lady than to be exposed to a merciless sun.
Usually games were played such as; croquet, blind man's bluff, or even tag and afterward the guests would break into separate groups, and, perhaps, into pairs. Some would explore the general area collecting flowers to hang and dry, or into the woods to search for wild mushrooms or moss. Others may wander off to sketch, or explore a nearby castle or ruins.

For Japanese, you can serve Japanese dishes, drink green tea, and maybe wear Waloli. Or even try to have something along the lines of traditional tea ceremony. Whatever you choose, even just an ordinary picnic, try not to do it halfway.

And most importantly, have fun! (And take lots of pictures!)

sorry i haven't posted in a while...

  • Jul. 5th, 2008 at 2:43 PM

i have been on vacation...

anyway, i found a great group that i am about to attempt to join (and am afraid of rejection).  they are feminists...  they are here:  http://community.livejournal.com/feminist/profile  and, after reading the vagina monologues on vacation, i have decided that women's rights tie right in with my other interests:  animal rights, gay rights...   and with my religious beliefs (agnostic somewhere between Dianan wicca and mainstream Buddhism)

so, if you look at this (like your site says you do)  please don't reject me because i am new and haven't posted much...

(sorry the people i would like to imagine are reading this, this was mostly just to them and an explanation of why i haven't posted.  man, i really need more content for this blog...)

i hope you enjoy them!

car wash blues

  • Jun. 14th, 2008 at 3:49 PM

the guard had a car wash today.  i worked it and now my feet are a little sore from my choice of shoes (do not wear platforms to a carwash - ever)  i am now tan despite my efforts to remain un-tan (pale is the word).  not that i can help it.  i look like a dark white person or an average latino person no matter what.

so now i'm sitting at my step-dad's office and waiting to go home, take ibeprofen (i'll risk the possible kidney effects) eat a salad, and practice dance.  won't that be nice?

i'm starving, i haven't eaten since breakfast (at like 5:30 am), and it is almost 4 pm.  usually i munch throughout the day instead of regular meals, so my body is like "wtf? feed me!"  and i'm like "no, there's no food!"

speaking of no food, vegan recipes would be great!  in fact, i'm going to post some soon!  still, you should give me some!  (innapropriate exclamation point much?)

oh, and i finished my lolita neck ruffle thingy (what are those called?).  it's not like a ruffle thing, more like a tie with ruffles of lace sewn on in order to compliment this off-white shirt i am determined to turn into an outfit.  still, it's cute, i'll post some pics soon (though it's not really wonderful, it's some shoddy workmanship for a lolita (though not awful awful), it's the first time i've made anything like it.  (plus it's a little too short for my neck and so it's tight on me)

well, i should go, my hair is still full of car soap...

Ewwwwwwwwwww

  • Jun. 13th, 2008 at 2:19 PM

i know i shouldn't complain, but the Handy blues and barbecue festival is going on and all i think of is dead pigs and loud music.  i had to go today and it was so weird.  old people listening to sad music (actually the music wasn't awful, just loud).  and i didn't wear loli clothing, just regular black jeans, punk shirt.  i'm pathetic.

oh, and the whole town is full of boat people.  i don't like boat people (that's what we call tourists, sorry, should have clarified), they gawk at you when  you wear punk clothes and laugh when you wear lolita clothing.

in other news:  i am getting fat.  i ate like 1/4 of a funnel cake and now i'm all sluggish.  someone should suggest what i do that doesn't include my sister's two methods that i shall never do:
1)  puking in the shower- she leaves the mess there, she thinks it all got washed away by the water, but when you eat huge amounts and throw them up, that's a lot and you really should do something about it.
2) smoking - she does it to lose weight and because she thinks it's oh-so-cool to smoke with her little friends

oh, i'm a twin and my sister feels she must be thinner than me, she is, but much less healthy, i'm sure.  and with dreadful friends.

anyway, (i'm off-topic again), i'm looking for vegan recipes that are low-calorie.  so send me what you've got!

yay! (finally)

  • Jun. 10th, 2008 at 12:25 PM

well, this is a happy moment for me.  i finally got an account and discovered a gothic lolita community less than an hour from me (yes, i am willing to take some form of rural mass transit to get there).  there is hope in this icky sea of redneck!  alas!  onward to Loiusville and it's lolita community!  (sorry i typed with exclamation points, shouting is kind of vulgar, i guess type-shouting is too)

i thought of joining a group here for black (is that the politically correct term?)  loli's, but then i had to wonder if they'd accept me (i am half black and proud! (but i look white-more so than halley berry))  so i didn't join and joined a local group i saw.  (maybe there is a group in indiana, i live right on the border)

anyway, i plan on finding more lolis to have gathering with (or converting my friends), and finding where said new loli's shop.  (seriously, you can't find any loli clothing here in Kentucky's small towns)
